In 2015, on the occasion of the BaselWorld trade show, Omega introduced the Globemaster, which was announced as the world's first Master Chronometer. The legendary Globemaster, which is both COSC and METAS certified, now returns with an update, and with a new case diameter. The Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar is increased from 39mm to 41mm, allowing for even better visibility of the vintage-inspired Pie Pan dial. The watch face is also revealed in a completely new shade of grey, evoking the early Constellation models.

However, the changes are not merely cosmetic. The most important update is on the inside, since the brand new movement drives the Globemaster Annual Calendar. The new OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8922 movement features an instantaneous jump mechanism, which controls the movement of the blue-varnished month hand. The hand travels along the month track, where each month has been positioned between blued indexes. Omega omitted the day of the week indicator, and, instead, it opted for a more restrained design, with a date window appear...

The house of Girard-Perregaux is celebrating its 225th anniversary this year. According to the custom of the Swiss watchmaking industry, the Maison will mark the occasion with a couple of new models inspired by its rich heritage. First of the watches, which is also going to be officially presented at the BaselWorld trade show, in a couple of days, is a revamped Girard-Perregaux Laureato.

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato model is a luxury sports watch distinguished by its 1970’s design, and very much alike Gerald Genta’s famous Royal Oak. As you can see, the watch features a round watch face and an octagonal bezel, as well as an integrated bracelet. The first Laureato was launched back in 1975, which makes it one of the first Genta-inspired sports watches. The historic Laureato is inspired by and named after Mike Nichols film The Graduate (1967) starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katharine Ross. Right from its v...

A tribute to watchmaking traditions the Tissot Le Locle Regulateur.

Tissot, the famous Swiss watchmaking company founded in 1853, is paying homage to its rich watchmaking heritage and Swiss watchmaking traditions. On the occasion of the BaselWorld 2016, the house of Tissot introduces the Le Locle Regulateur, a nod to the original "Regulateur", which was a time reference instrument used in watchmakers workshops of the 18th and 19th century to check the accuracy of pocket watches. At that time, watches were not as accurate as they are today. The hour display was not of any great importance, but the minute display...

Pre-Baselworld 2016: Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer

A couple of weeks ahead of the BaselWorld 2016 trade show, Omega gives us a look at its new Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph. The watch, which was first announced in January this year, is a 44mm stainless steel piece with a deep blue dial and a moon-phase complication at 6 o’clock. A moonphase complication in a sports watch is quite unusual, and pretty much senseless, but not in this case, since Omega Speedmaster is no stranger to the lunar surface. The manual winding Speedmaster Professional or "Moonwatch" was worn during the first Amer...
