Presented today in Basel, the Queen of all watches reveals a host of complications. Research in the archives and study of original drawings from the Breguet museum and from other key institutions like the museum des Art et Metiers in Paris were the only available sources of information available to complete the formidable task.
This masterpiece rests in a precious wood presentation box made of more than 3500 pieces fashioned from the royal oak: the interior of the box features a painstakingly handcrafted inlay work made of more than a thousand pieces of wood depicting the hand of Marie-Antoinette holding her rose, a detail inspired by one of the most famous portrait of the Queen. The outside of the box faithfully reproduces the intricate wood flooring of the Petit Trianon.
With the creation of the first Marie Antoinette, Breguet presented a tribute to 18th century horology. Today, the brand achieved the impossible: Breguet has brought a two centuries old legend back to life in the 21st century.
