Beautiful watch in "Grand feu" enamel technique

The Réveil du Tsar Enamel Dial

Posted 1 year, 4 months ago

Back in 2003, Breguet revealed their "Réveil du Tsar" alarm watch, at Baselworld exhibition. As the name has already suggested, the watch is so fine and delicate that it is worthy of the awakening of the Emperor!

Just a couple of days ago, master crafters from Breguet unveiled the newest addition to this highly sophisticated line of luxury timepieces - the new Réveil du Tsar Enamel Dial. This model available solely and exclusively at Breguet boutique shops.

The Réveil du Tsar Enamel Dial is characterized by very functional dial, which offers the exceptional readability. This somewhat old-fashioned attribute is almost suppressed by modern and complex ways of presenting a watch dial. Most of the modern timepieces are visually very appealing and complicated, but extremely difficult for reading.

Breguet Réveil du Tsar watch is a beautiful example of a timepiece which is both interesting from the outside, and yet preserves the exceptional readability. As you can see on the picture, the dial boast pure sleek surface and high level of contrast. Breguet achieved this exceptional effect by using a special “grand feu enamel” technique. Grand feu is a very old method of decoration, which uses a limited range of colors that are painted onto the raw glaze and fired together. The total effect is that images on the glaze become very pronounced and visible to the detail. The watch dial is a small surface that requires such a delicate technique in order to provide precise and highly visible details. The old Réveil du Tsar model had a machine engraved guilloche dial, which truly is in Breguet’s tradition.

The dial reveals following functionalities: an alarm clock sub-dial at 3 o’clock; a subsidiary second and small date aperture at 6 o’clock; a 24-hour GMT sub-dial at 9 o’clock; a power reserve indicator between 10 and 11 o’clock; and an alarm on/off indicator at 12 o’clock. The alarm complication is operated with winding crown at 4 o’clock and a small pusher at 8 o’clock. The alarm clock sub dial is painted with elegant Roman numerals. The alarm is on if the musical note is presented.

This piece is crafted in 18-carat pink gold, and it comes in 39.00mm wide round case. The watch utilizes Breguet caliber 519F automatic movement, equipped with 34 jewels. The movement provides 45 hours of power reserve, and water resistance up to 30 meters.

This watch is boutique exclusivity, and it will be available only at Breguet’s boutiques throughout the world. The estimated price is somewhere around €25,000 or $32,500.
