Original model for the Egyptian Navy

Officine Panerai presented very interesting new piece: The Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo. The watch is a remake of the original Panerai Radiomir model, made for the Egyptian Navy in the mid-1950's.

The original watch is a true rarity, produced in a very limited edition of 50 pieces. This epic model was developed at the request of the Egyptian Navy, but several other models were also developed for the other Mediterranean navies. The interesting thing about the original model is that the first prototype sent to the Egyptian Navy was rejected, as they wanted something much stronger, more durable and nearly indestructible… and the legend was born.

More than half a century later, Panerai revokes the old story producing the professional underwater watch made of bronze, a material very resistant to corrosion. Bronze is the material of choice for the most coveted of all diver's artifacts. This material is an alloy of copper, tin, zinc, phosphorus, and sometimes small amounts of other elements, very strong and resistant to corrosion. Over time, bronze items will develop a deep patina, which is a delicate green shine that looks very interesting on a timepiece. The patina develops as a reaction to air, humidity or salt water, and it doesn’t alter the properties of the material. Moreover, it is a charming sign of aging that makes each piece truly unique.

The watch comes in an oversized 47mm wide brushed round case with unidirectional rotating bezel. Dark green dial nicely melts with the bronze silhouette of the case, and offers an exceptional background for highly luminous skeletonized hands. The case-back is transparent and reveals movements of the inner mechanism.

The watch utilizes the in-house P.900 calibre, composed of 197 individual components and two barrels. This allows for as much as 72 hours, or three days (as the name suggests), of power reserve. The single piece rotor winds by moving in both directions. The movement also has a stop seconds device, which allows for accurate synchronization of the hand with an external time signal.

The watch is completed with Panerai personalized leather strap and large brushed titanium buckle. It is also supplied with additional interchangeable strap and a steel screwdriver. The piece is water resistant to 300 meters.

Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 days Automatic Bronzo is produced in a limited edition of 1000 copies, under the reference PAM00382. The watch is priced at € 7.300, and it will be available from August 2011.
