Chanel Watch Collections

Posted 1 year, 3 months ago

The first timepiece issued by Chanel was a watch named Première, in 1987. Just like the famous perfume Chanel N° 5, the Première watch adopted the shape of Place Vendôme, with its hands positioned in such a way as to evoke the Vendôme column in the center of the Place.

Place Vendôme, a square in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, and one of the oldest districts of the city, was once a home of Coco Chanel, a pioneering French fashion designer and a founder of the famous Chanel brand.

Mademoiselle Chanel lived there at the Ritz Hotel in a room equipped with a rear door, which were an exit to her office, workshops and boutique, on the Rue Cambon. The Place Vendôme was also a cradle of the company's rich and successful history - it was here that Chanel launched her first collection of diamond pieces.

Gabrielle Coco Chanel created pieces according to the simple aesthetic codes and a fresh modernist philosophy. Born in a very poor family, she managed to build a huge success. This brave and determined woman even created her first collection of diamond pieces at a time when world struggled with the recession and suffered from the tremendous consequences of great economic crisis.

Today, Chanel is recognized as one of the most established houses in haute couture, specializing in luxury goods.

Following the success of their fist timepiece, company made another important milestone in 2000, launching the famous Chanel J12 collection. The collection was, five years later, enhanced with jewelry watch equipped with the tourbillion, the most refined of all watch making complications. The exclusive movement CHANEL O5-T.1, built by the experienced Swiss watchmakers, was made to be used in these fine jewelry watches.

According to the principles of Mademoiselle Chanel's menswear-inspired fashions, the Chanel J12 collection introduced first unisex timepiece. It also featured first model water-resistant to 200 meters, and the first watch crafted in high-tech non-scratch ceramic.

Over time, Chanel timekeeping creations have evolved into extremely glamorous diamond pieces collected under the name “Haute Joaillerie”. In 2003 Chanel launched the Coco Mademoiselle and the Chanel In-Between Wear, dedicated to younger women. Their luxury goods are outstanding pieces based upon true watch making authority, and still very much on demand.
