Maurice de Mauriac watches are designed and produced in Zurich, Switzerland. What is really unique about this brand is that it is the first watch manufacture that brands their watches with “Zurich”. Each of their pieces is based on high-quality design and reliable Swiss movements. The brand uses Valjoux 7750s for the chronographs and a range of ETA automatics for the rest of the models. The creator behind this brand is Daniel Dreifuss, who founded Maurice de Mauriac in 1997. Very soon, he started branding the watches as “Zurich” instead of “Swiss” to distinguish the brand from the rest of the larger part of Swiss watch industry.



Perhaps the most interesting thing about the design of these watches is that Daniel incorporates the principles of feng shui into the process of design. Feng shui, an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics, uses the laws of Heaven and Earth to help one improve different aspects of life by receiving positive qi. Qi is often described as a vital force, an active principle of life or energy flow. Maurice de Mauriac watches are characterized by a successful blend of aviation and vintage style. Their latest piece The Tactial Sapphyire, is named after the optical color on F-16 military jets. It uses a special tactical crystal and, depending on the angle the sun hits its surface, the watch changes its color. The watch is available in 10 different colors, crafted from steel or titanium. The chronograph functions are propelled by the Valjaoux 7750 movement, and the case is coated in black DLC. The new piece is available in a 42mm or 45mm case size, with screw or simple pushers. Steel model is priced at $5200 while the titanium one retails for $5750.
