James Bond Rolex Submariner at Christie's

The stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner wristwatch, equipped by the famous "Q" for James Bond, is known as a main gadget in the epic movie "Live and Let Die". The watch was designed art director Syd Cain and especially modified for the movie - it had a built-in buzz saw bezel and high-intensity magnetic field generator. This unique bezel was made by cutting its edges into sharp teeth and adapting it in order for it to rise to full height before spinning.

The Rolex ref. 5513, modified by the famous Q Branch is possibly the most memorable watch to appear in the movies. It was manufactured in 1972, and then converted from a stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner wristwatch to this customized model with black dial, luminous baton and dot numerals, Mercedes-style hands, tonneu shaped case, and special engraving on the inside case-back Roger Moore 007. The movement was removed to allow customization.



The lot will be offered for auction along with an original construction drawing and two signed images from the set. The estimated price is $233,043 - $466,087. You can also bid online for this piece but you should be aware that the importation of Rolex watches into the United States is highly restricted. These watches may not be shipped into USA, but only imported personally.
