The upcoming Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) is scheduled for 16th-20th January 2012. A total of nineteen watch brands will present their newest creations at the show, and exciting previews of their future exhibits are slowly becoming public. Today I have a pleasure to announce a new model by Girard-Perregaux - 1966 Annual Calendar and Equation of Time.

The Girard-Perregaux 1966 line pays homage to brand’s perpetual commitment to innovation and evokes the most fruitful period in the history of the Manufacture, when they received the Neuchâtel Observatory’s Centenary Prize for developments in the field of research and precision. The new Girard-Perregaux 1966 Annual Calendar and Equation of Time repeats the same values of precision and accuracy, established in 1966. The watch is a mechanical automatically-wound annual calendar that requires a single manual correction every 28th february of non-leap years. It indicates date and month automatically, as well as the difference between the real solar time and the mean solar time. The former is a function of the equation of time complication, positioned between 3 and 5 o’clock and it reproduces the accurate movements of Earth around the Sun.

Girard-Perregaux GP033M0 movement propels all of the functions of this watch. Hand-assembled and nested in a pink gold case it also animates the centered hour and minutes hands, as well as small seconds indicator, positioned at 9 o’clock. The case measures 40 millimeters in diameter and has a sapphire crystal glass embedded on both sides. The open case-back allows for the view on the movement and its oscilating weight decorated with Côtes de Genève, and circular grained, polished and brushed surfaces. The movement is built on 44 jewels; it beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and allows for a minimum of 46 hours of power reserve.
