LOUIS MOINET Treasures of the World Australian Opal

The idea behind this new venture is to collect the most beautiful stones from all parts of the world and use them to create a line of high-end mechanical watches. In doing this, Louis Moinet have partnered with Mr Daniel Haas - a world-renowned specialist in semi-precious stones. The concept is embodied in a range of one-of-a-kind wristwatches, of which the brand now unveils the first three: Australian Opal, Red Stromatolite and Biggs Jasper. Today I have a pleasure to write about Australian Opal, a watch that will be exhibited at this year’s BaselWorld.

Louis Moinet Vertalis Tourbillon «Australian Opal» is crafted in 18-carat gold. The watch dial is made of beautiful Australian crystal opal, a stone regarded as one of the most remarkable precious stones in gemology. The dial lights up depending on the angle from which one looks at it, and all colors and textures of the stone are gradually being revealed as the wearer moves the wrist. The stone is finished with a layer of transparent lacquer, which brings out the most dazzling reflections.

To make the interplay of colors and light even more intense, Louis Moinet has set the bezel with 56 baguette-cut diamonds. Everything is nested inside 47.0 mm diameter and powered by manual-winding mechanical movement endowed with 72 hours of power reserve.
