The Worst of Klimt promo poster
Luckily, high-end Swiss manufactures have also been inspired by the works of Gustv Klimt and recreated some of his finest works, such as The Kiss. To pay a tribute to the famous artist, Jaeger Le-Coultre has designed an extraordinary Atmos Marqueterie ‘The Kiss’ clock. The creation is offered in an exclusive limited edition comprising of only 10 pieces. The original work by Gustav Klimt was made using the complex technique of marquetry. In one of my recent articles, I explained the art of marquetry in detail, as a craft of applying pieces of veneer to a base to form decorative designs.
Klimt’s mosaic from 1904 was made using 1,200 pieces of wood, each coated in gold. Now the Jaeger Le-Coultre recreates the same process using the wood of walnut, maple, lemon, pear, madrona burl and ash burl for the cabinet. The interior lining of the cabinet is made in combination of rhodium and crystal glass and it opens to reveal a beautiful hand-crafted mother-of-pearl dial embellished with diamonds, gold and precious woods. The clock is animated by the Jaeger Le Coultre caliber 582 movement, which is hand-assembled from 582 individual components. The movement provides indications for hours, minutes, 24-hour indicator, month and the moon phase indicator.
