Only Watch 2017

Only Watch, a biennial charity event organized to benefit the Monaco Association against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, is taking place on November 11 in Geneva. For the first time since its inception in 2005, this extraordinary charity auction will be conducted by Christie’s. For a couple of days, Geneva will turn into the epicenter of the world’s finest watchmakers, with 49 of the best showcasing their one-off models!  In six editions, Only Watch has raised more than 25 million for research in Duchene muscular dystrophy, helping make significant advances in the study over a decade.

F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante

One of the brands participating in this year’s auction is the manufacture F.P. Journe, which has developed a gorgeous new Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante exclusively for Only Watch. While most of the manufacturers are offering a unique new take on one of their existing models, F.P. Journe has decided to develop an entirely new watch, which will never belong to any of the existing the F.P. Journe collections.

F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante

The Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante is a robust 44mm wide timepiece (and 11.50 mm thickness) made from a blue-gray, lustrous material named tantalum. The watch is actually the first ever split-seconds chronograph to be created by François-Paul Journe, and it also features a brand new movement. In terms of its aesthetics, the watch reveals the brand’s signature codes, complete with a tantalum case and a blue chrome dial.

F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante

The largest case ever made by F.P. Journe embraces a gorgeous sporty dial with a traditional bi-compax chronograph display - small seconds at 9 and 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. There are also vintage-looking tachymeter and telemeter scales printed in lively shades on the periphery of the dial. An orange tachymeter scale can be used to measure the distance in kilometers, while a yellow telemeter scale helps measuring the distance traveled by the sound. A pusher at 2 o’clock is for the chronograph, while the one at 4 o’clock controls the rattrapante (split-seconds) function.

F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante

The watch is powered by the exclusive manual winded F.P. Journe caliber 1517 with column wheels in 18-karat rose gold. It beats at a frequency of 21'600 vibrations per hour, and comes with a long autonomy of 80 hours. The caliber is perfectly finished and decorated in line with the finest Swiss traditions: Circular stripes on the bridges, baseplate partly circular grained, polished screw heads with chamfered slots, pegs with polished rounded ends, steel parts with polished chamfers, straight graining…

F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante is mounted on an orange leather strap. A presale estimate for this unique piece is set between CHF 200,000 and CHF 400,000, but we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that it fetched the highest price ever for a F.P. Journe watch.
