Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton

Marina Milojević | 05.08.17 | 05:31 PM

The latest addition to the Laureato family is the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton, an openworked timepiece fitted with a skeletonized high-end mechanical movement Calibre GP01800-0006. Interestingly enough, the original Laureato, launched in 1975, was designed to go hand in hand with Girard-Perregaux’s new quartz movement. Who could have guessed that the version released more than 40 years later would be equipped with a high-end automatic movement!

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton is a handsome new watch with a metal bracelet and a skeleton movement. As explained by the famous Swiss manufacture, the model is an exercise in horological architecture. Even the original Laureato was designed by a Milan-based architect, embodying the wealth of art and shapes: solids and voids, lines and curves, interior and exterior. The new generation of Laureato watches was introduced in 2016, and currently being expanded to include the spectacular new Laureato Skeleton.

The essence of its design remains intact: metal bracelet with alternating matte and satin-brushed surfaces, the lugs integrated into the case design, polished octagonal bezel framed by a circle. The exterior of the watch is a 42 mm-diameter, 10.88 mm-thick case, available in stainless steel or 18K pink gold, complete with a matching bracelet. The interior is a skeletonized movement, Calibre GP01800-0006, forming veritable mechanical lace motifs. The balance wheel of the movement, which now uses a variable-inertia balance, is visible at 12 o’clock position. The movement is fitted with the rotor carved from an openworked block of 18K pink gold. The watch provides indications for the hours, minutes and small seconds, rimmed by suspended hour-markers.

The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton is water resistant 100 meters for the stainless steel version, 50 meters for the pink gold version. Its delicate face is covered by a sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. The case-back is also openworked, allowing the wearer to admire the wonder of the movement assembled from 173 parts and 25 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph, and provides around 54 hours of power reserve.
