IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000”

Marina Milojević | 08.01.17 | 03:43 PM

IWC Schaffhausen celebrates the 35th birthday of its first Aquatimer model, which was originally designed by Ferdinand A. Porsche, back in 1982. The Aquatimer Ocean 2000. Before being sold commercially, this historical timepiece was available only to German navy divers. With its avant-garde design, and extreme pressure-resistance, the legendary Aquatimer was years ahead of its time. In 2017, the famous model celebrates its 35th birthday, which is a splendid occasion for IWC to unveil a special limited series: the Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000” (Ref. IW329101).

The spectacular new addition to the Aquatimer range is the thinnest deep-sea diver’s watch in the IWC’s collection. The overall thickness of its case measures only 14.5 millimeters, and yet it manages to function reliably and accurately on dives up to 2000 meters of depth! The secret to this success lies in the new improved shape of the titanium case with a diameter of 42.0 mm.

IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000”

This professional diving instrument features a rotating bezel for setting the dive time. The innovative SafeDive system safeguards that the bezel can only be adjusted by turning it anticlockwise, thus ensuring the time at which the diver can come back to the surface without the need for decompression stops is never exceeded.

In terms of design, the IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000” features a black dial, white hands and indices coated with luminescent paint, and the red tip of the seconds hand – all inspired by the Ocean 2000. The case-back is engraved with a diver’s helmet for deep-sea divers, reminding the wearer of its extreme pressure resistance. The recessed grips on the rotating bezel and the lamellar-style rubber strap pay tribute to the Porsche original from 1982. The strap is equipped with the special quick-change system, so it can easily be replaced with another strap.

The IWC Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000” is available as a limited edition of 350 pieces with a price tag of $7,400. The watch is available in IWC boutiques and from authorized IWC retailers from July 2017. More inforamation available from iwc.com.
