Montblanc introduces bronze into its 1858 Collection

Exploring Minerva’s amazing heritage, the house of Montblanc introduces bronze into its 1858 Collection. The range is named after the year in which Minerva, a legendary Swiss watch manufacture, today part of Montblanc in the Richemont group, was established in Villeret. Since 2007, Montblanc has created a vintage-styled timepieces inspired by Minerva’s historical creations. The latest in this vintage watchmaking series are three new bronze models for the Montblanc 1858 Collection, which reinterprets the famous Minerva military chronographs from the 1930: a Montblanc 1858 Chronometer Tachymeter Limited Edition 100, a Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time and a Montblanc 1858 Automatic timepiece.

Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter

The introduction of bronze to the Montblanc 1858 Collection is a first for the Maison. This genuine material from watchmaking history goes hand in hand with historical Minerva chronographs, as it beautifully embodies the true military spirit of the 1930’s. The warm hue of bronze complements both the colors of the dials and the old-fashioned straps. In addition, for the first time in watchmaking history, bronze is coupled with steel, for two new models. The result is an attractive bi-color, bi-material combination.

Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter

The most amazing thing about bronze is that it forms its own unique, even and attractive patina, which makes each watch one of a kind. The subtle evolution of material even more highlights the vintage appeal of each timepiece.  Each of these vintage-inspired watches shares the same historical design codes borrowed from the 1930’s military chronographs. They include large cathedral hands, cloisonné design filled with beige Super-LumiNova®, luminescent Arabic numerals, vintage-shaped crowns, and classic minute railway tracks. There is also the original Montblanc logo from the 1930’s, a historical font and emblem of the Mont Blanc Mountain in the center. The watches are mounted on new cognac-colored calfskin and alligator straps, that have been given an aged look.

Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter

Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter, reference 116243, available in a limited edition of 100 pieces, features a champagne dial with a sunray finishing. The watch is housed in a 44mm full-satinated bronze case with an anti-allergic bronze colored titanium case back. The case is topped with a polished bezel, and mounted on a cognac alligator leather strap. On the inside, it is a manual monopusher chronograph, powered by the Minerva MB M16.29 caliber. The movement beats at a frequency of 18,000 semi oscillations per hour, and provides a generous amount of power reserve – up to 50 hours. Designed in a large "pocket watch" style, the MB M16.29 has been inspired by the original 17.29 Calibre designed for pocket watches and wristwatches in the 1930s. The modern-day version uses almost the same shape of the components, but features different finishing. For the first time, the caliber bears red gold-colored components, that perfectly match the bronze material.

Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time

Montblanc 1858 Automatic Dual Time, reference 116479, features the traditional black dial housed in a 44mm satinated stainless steel case with a bronze bezel and crown. The watch is powered by the automatic Calibre MB 29.19 movement, which includes a dual-time complication with a home time indication and a day/night display. A skeletonized home time hand, with a luminous tip, is positioned in the center of the dial, while a day and night indicator is visible at 12 o’clock position. At six o’clock, linked to the local time is a subdial that indicates the small seconds and the date.

Montblanc 1858 Automatic, reference 116241

Montblanc 1858 Automatic, reference 116241, is a version for those who love pure, clean, vintage timepieces. It combines all the essential elements from the 1858 Collection, with a deep black dial graced with beige Super-LumiNova highlights. The 44mm case is made from stainless steel, while the bezel and crown have been produced in bronze. e. The case back reveals an engraving of the Minerva Manufacture in Villeret, with the Jura Mountains in the background, Roberts Frères Villeret logo, the historic Minerva logo, the Montblanc name, and the arrow from the Goddess Minerva’s spear. This one is powered by the automatic Calibre MB 24.16, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides around 38 hours of power reserve. More information at Montblanc.com.

Earlier this year, in September, the house of Montblanc unveiled the limited edition, diamond-set ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Vasco da Gama wristwatch, a piece that combines two of the most prized chronometric complications: a chronograph and a patented tourbillon. For this special edition, the gorgeous Montblanc ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph Vasco da Gama model is set with diamonds, and presented in a 44 mm-diameter white gold case.

The exceptional multi-leveled dial, staging the two complications of the timepiece, is decorated with dark blue aventurine, and embraced by 76 diamonds. The balance wheel is completely disclosed, and surrounded by a semi-precious stone that evokes a starry night. The aventurine is used for the upper portion of the dial, thus referencing the sky of the southern hemisphere that guided Vasco da Gama during his voyage. A single diamond, cut in the shape of the Montblanc insignia, shines at 12 o’clock, while the center of the dial features a blue “...

A special place among Montblanc's latest innovations is saved for the Bohème Day & Night model, which gracefully unites timeless feminine elegance, reflected in its refined aesthetics, and unparalleled functionality and precision.

The new Montblanc model, which is dedicated solely to the ladies, has a discrete small Day and Night complication set against the emblematic Bohème guilloché dial. This romantic indication is of no practical purpose for a modern lady, but it beautifully exemplifies the great tradition of Swiss complications, and the artistic expertise of Montblanc. This purely poetic indicator allows the wearer to find out which part of the day or night it is precisely. The complication is, actually, a rotating disc, on which the day segment is indicated throug...
