BaselWorld 2017

For BaselWorld 2017 Omega introduced a new version of its emblematic Speedmaster chronograph. This time, the legendary Speedmaster is elegantly sized at 38mm in diameter, while still retaining its distinctive look and feel. One of the most recognized chronographs in the world has now been given a pure aesthetic touch that makes it ideal for watch admirers who appreciate both classic and contemporary styles.

The new Speedmaster 38mm collection debuts with fourteen new models for men and women, each with horizontal oval subdials and a vertical oval date window positioned at 6 o’clock. The inspiration for this elegant design can be traced down to the shape of the oval subdials that Omega used in the past on a number of its De Ville watches. Keeping up with the sporty nature of the collection, each model of the Omega Speedmaster 38mm series is equipped with a tachymeter scale. On certain models, the dual bezel design has allowed the brand to add a row of sparkling white diamonds, while retaining the sporty DNA of the collection.

At BaselWorld 2017, Omega has unveiled first four models of the collection, providing an overview of the full range.. The one made from stainless steel and 18k Sedna gold is, due to its attractive color scheme, nicknamed Cappuccino. The model features a bi-color dial with and a taupe-brown leather strap.

The second model unites a stainless steel case with a mother-of-pearl dial and a white leather strap. The oval nacre subdials are framed with diamonds, while the hands are rhodium-plated, except for the chronograph hands that are in 18K rose gold.

The third model combines stainless steel and 18-karat yellow gold, pairing them with the opaline-silvery dial. The watch face is embraced by a green aluminum bezel that matches a green leather strap. All hands are yellow gold, except for the chronograph hands that are painted in green.

Finally, there is a model made from stainless steel and a sun-brushed glacier blue dial. This one is topped by a blue aluminum bezel and mounted on a polished-brushed Omega bracelet. The hands are rhodium-plated, all except for the chronograph hands that are blue.

The new Omega Speedmaster 38mm watches are fitted with a case-back stamped with the Speedmaster’s long-standing symbol – the Seahorse medallion. Each of them utilizes the Omega Co-Axial Calibre 3330, complete with a silicon balance spring.

In 2015, on the occasion of the BaselWorld trade show, Omega introduced the Globemaster, which was announced as the world's first Master Chronometer. The legendary Globemaster, which is both COSC and METAS certified, now returns with an update, and with a new case diameter. The Omega Globemaster Annual Calendar is increased from 39mm to 41mm, allowing for even better visibility of the vintage-inspired Pie Pan dial. The watch face is also revealed in a completely new shade of grey, evoking the early Constellation models.

However, the changes are not merely cosmetic. The most important update is on the inside, since the brand new movement drives the Globemaster Annual Calendar. The new OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8922 movement features an instantaneous jump mechanism, which controls the movement of the blue-varnished month hand. The hand travels along the month track, where each month has been positioned between blued indexes. Omega omitted the day of the week indicator, and, instead, it opted for a more restrained design, with a date window appear...

Pre-Baselworld 2016: Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer

A couple of weeks ahead of the BaselWorld 2016 trade show, Omega gives us a look at its new Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph. The watch, which was first announced in January this year, is a 44mm stainless steel piece with a deep blue dial and a moon-phase complication at 6 o’clock. A moonphase complication in a sports watch is quite unusual, and pretty much senseless, but not in this case, since Omega Speedmaster is no stranger to the lunar surface. The manual winding Speedmaster Professional or "Moonwatch" was worn during the first Amer...
