The famous Swiss luxury watch manufacturer, Oris, has just released a very special timepiece made in honor of the crew of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, the French Navy’s flagship. The exclusive new timepiece is based on one of the Oris’ most celebrated models, the Big Crown.

The PA Charles de Gaulle Oris Limited Edition

The Big Crown, one of Oris’s signature designs, was first introduced in 1938. This year it inspires the exclusive classic pilot’s watch created in partnership with officers of the French Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier.  The model is limited to 1890 individual exemplars, evoking the year the iconic French general and founder of France’s Fifth Republic, Charles de Gaulle, was born.

The case-back is embossed with its image, while the colors of the second hand (blue, white and red) symbolize the French Tricolore. The crown is embossed with ‘R91’, the aircraft carrier’s identification number, paying tribute to one the world’s best navy ships. Charles de Gaulle is the flagship of the French Marine Nationale, and the largest western European warship currently in commission. She is the tenth French aircraft carrier, the first French nuclear-powered surface vessel, and the only nuclear-powered carrier completed outside of the United States Navy.
