Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata

Marina Milojević | 03.17.17 | 09:47 AM

Ulysse Nardin has offered an updated version of its incredibly functional Classic Sonata model. For 2017, the aesthetically bold Classic Sonata features a more refined, streamlined design, epitomizing a perfect fusion of form and function. The updated Classic Sonata is beautiful in a classic, more traditional way, which most people find aesthetically pleasing. At the same time, the Classic Sonata manages to combine its traditional aesthetics with pure mechanics, all without compromising on functionality.

Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata

Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata unites a number of mechanical complications that have been paired down to their most essential form, resulting in a timepiece that is a perfect travel companion. The watch features an alarm function, which wakes the user with a pleasing cathedral chime. The function occupies a sub-dial located between 12 o’clock and 2 o’clock, which also features the 'countdown' display of the last 12 hours, allowing the wearer to select wake-up in the morning or in the afternoon.

Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata

Like any great traveler’s watch, the Classic Sonata is equipped with the Dual Time function, meaning that both home time and local time can be compared simultaneously. In addition to the time, the watch also offers a Big Date indicator, and a dedicated power-reserve indicator in the alarm setting. This is quite important, since the alarm function on this watch can be set 24 hours in advance. The On/Off switch, visible on the left side of the dial, is also for the alarm complication.

Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata

Inside the Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata is a proprietary caliber UN-67, which has been carefully redesigned for even better and easier performance. The escapement, as well as the patented hairspring of the movement, is made from silicone. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides around 42 hours of power reserve.

Ulysse Nardin Classic Sonata

For 2017, Ulysse Nardin releases two versions of the Classic Sonata – one in stainless steel, and one in 18-carat rose gold. The gold version features a black dial and rose gold hands and appliques, while the steel one features a white dial with stainless steel detailing. On both watches, the case measures 44mm in diameter, and is water resistant to 300 meters. The steel version, reference 637-05/90, retails for $24,800, while the price for the rose gold watch, reference 672-05/92, is $42,800. More information available at ulysse-nardin.com.
