Audemars Piguet Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak Limited Edition 40th Anniversary watch is announced in November 2011 to be unveiled at SIHH 2012 exhibition. This watch is designed to celebrate the 40 years since their first Royal Oak wristwatch was designed by famous Gérald Genta.
The watch is issued in commemorative limited edition of only 40 pieces crafted in platinum. It comes in a 39-milimeter case, same as the original Royal Oak from 1972, and uses the movement of the same thickness, of only 3.05 millimeters in diameter.
The watch boasts an openworked dial that reveals automatic caliber 5122 movement in anthracite finish. The oscillating weight is made of 22-carat white gold and it is visible from the case-back. The movement offers 40 hours of power reserve.
