The house of Blancpain introduces its new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph Blancpain Ocean Commitment II, a watch that reinforces its commitment in exploration and preservation of the oceans.

The famous Swiss manufacturer has been historically associated with diving for more than 60 years, since the launch of the Fifty Fathoms diving timepiece, in 1953. This was the first modern diving watch in the world, so Blancpain pays it a noble tribute by supporting environmental protection and sponsoring various underwater projects, such as oceanographic explorations, exhibitions, underwater photography, and high-profile publications. Since 2014, Blancpain's long-standing financial support of oceanic environmental causes is concreted under th...

Blancpain’s Métiers d’Art studio in the Vallée de Joux, dedicated to the creation of the most exceptional works of art and one-of-a-kind timepieces, introduces a new model of the Villeret Collection bearing the image of Ganesh. Ganesh, one of the most important gods in the Hindu pantheon, a divinity that is widely revered as the remover of obstacles, has been represented with the head of an elephant.

The image of the godlike creature was rendered using the arts of fine engraving, damascening, and shakudō. It is the same illustration of Ganesh featured on the watch of the Villeret series that won the Artistic Crafts prize in 2015, Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Both of these unique pieces have a glorious shakudō dial, which is a special alloy of gold and copper. Shakudō originates from Japan, where it was historically used to decorate katana fittings and other ornaments. The alloy visually bears a resemblance to bronze, beca...

Blancpain Metiers d’Art The Great Wave highlights a gemstone used for the first time by Blancpain – Mexican silver obsidian – as well as a favorite Blancpain technique: Japanese rokushō patina.

One of the loveliest watches at this year’s Baselworld is the Blancpain Metiers d’Art The Great Wave. A watch inspired by the restlessness of the sea, and made from Mexican silver obsidian. For the first time ever, Blancpain uses this semi-transparent volcanic rock for one of its dials. Silver obsidian, a smoky gray, almost black stone, speckled with silvery clouds, serves as a base for the magnificent “The Great Wave” applique in white gold. The technique used to create such a delicate adornment isn’t new to...

This charming new model features a nacre marquetry heart at the center of the dial, having the upper portion adorned with diamonds and rubies. On the occasion of the BaselWorld 2015 exhibition, the house of Blancpain launched a new masterpiece in its Villaret series – the Shakudō.

As one would guess from the headline of this article, the Villaret Shakudō is produced by an atelier skilled in the art of watchmaking craftsmanship. Blancpain’s finest engravers and enamel painters have now demonstrated their skill on shakudō, which is a special alloy of gold and copper that originates from Japan, where it was historically used to decorate katana fittings and other ornaments. Since the Maison Blancpain is renowned for its Damascened timepieces, it was only a matter of time before it turns to copper and gold. Shakudō allo...

For BaselWorld 2015, Blancpain unveiled a new member of its L-evolution Collection, which consists of dynamic and avant-garde timepieces. The range now welcomes a new rendition of the Tourbillon Carrousel, but in a completely new, contemporary form.

Back in 1913, on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, Blancpain, the famous Manufacture from Le Brasus, constructed the world’s first wristwatch combining the carrousel and the tourbillon regulators. Both of these additions to the watch movement are used to counter the effects of gravity in a quest for precision. The brand succeeded to unite two of its emblematic complications in a single model, and to accommodate them inside two independent carriages that are linked by a differential gear system. The system transmits the average rate of both...

Blancpain’s Villaret collection welcomes a new self-winding model – the Villeret Chronographe Pulsomètre, beating at a rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour.

Blancpain’s Villaret Chronographe this year arrives in a special Pulsomètre edition, which displays a pulsometer function, which enables its wearer to check a heart rate quickly and effortlessly. Pulsometer watches, which are both medical instruments and time telling devices, were developed many decades ago, when talking heart rate measurements used to necessitate a 60-second measurement throughout which the sum of beats had to be exactly counted. The pulsometers were invented to help doctors and nurses to measure their patients’ pulses more qu...
