The gripping collection of tales contained in "Wind, Sand and Stars", from which this quotation is taken, is perhaps Saint Exupery's most impressive anthem to flying under the extreme conditions of that pioneering age. The scene changes from one continent to another and through many different time zones: from the endless tracts of Patagonia to the icy wastes of the cordilleras and the hostile expanses of the Sahara. So what could have been more appropriate than to give the third special edition dedicated to Saint Exupery a UTC display. The abbreviation stands for Universal Time Coordinated. While your reference time - the time at home, for instance - continues to run normally in a separate window, local time can be moved backwards or forwards one hour at a time using the crown, depending on the direction of your flight. The date display is synchronized with the hour display. The engraving on the back cover is of a Latecoère 25, the aircraft Saint Exupery used to fly on the postal routes in Argentina and Chile. Like its predecessors, this edition is limited to a number of watches equivalent to the year of the books' publication: 1939. Of these, 1188 are in stainless steel, 500 in rose gold, 250 in white gold, and one in platinum. The latter is not for sale and will be auctioned to the highest bidder for a worthy cause. |
