Chopard presents its new Haute Joaillerie masterpiece – a diamond set watch shaped like a glittering hedgehog covered with moonstone spikes. Introducing the Chopard Haute Joaillerie Hedgehog timepiece.
The all new Chopard Haute Joaillerie Hedgehog Timepiece was unveiled at Paris Couture Week where, for the first time ever, Chopard joined the Fédération Française de la Couture as a “jeweler” member. The brand held an exclusive presentation of its most recent Haute Joaillerie creations, including both jewelry and watches. The most spectacular creation presented on this occasion was certainly the Haute Joaillerie Hedgehog Timepiece, a diamond-set secret watch, which conceals the flow of time underneath a dazzling hedgehog figurine.
The Chopard Haute Joaillerie Hedgehog Timepiece is made of the most precious materials such as 18-karat white gold, sparkling white diamonds, and mysterious moonstones. Each of these beautiful pieces requires hundreds of hours of work by the Manufacture’s most skilled artisans. The new model revisits watchmaking trends of the first half of the 20th century, when secret watches were highly popular among the female clientele. As Chopard reminds us “‘Secret’ timepieces carry a hint of nostalgia reminiscent of an era when good manners implied occasionally peeking at the time without being noticed.”
The Hegdog timepiece symbolizes an imaginary journey to the heart of a precious animal, as beneath the moonstones illuminated by tiny diamonds hides the diamond-set dial of an oval watch. The extremely delicate moonstones have been cut into delicate spikes of varying heights and arranged over the spherical body of the hedgehog. The head of a miniaturized animal is fully set in diamonds, and graced with two sapphires that replicate the hedgehog’s eyes. The snout of a wooden creature is set with brown sapphires, and serves as a secret mechanism for opening the hedgehog in the middle of its back. Once the alluring moonstones separate, a small baby hedgehog holding a watch dial appears integrated into the diamond-set interior.
Chopard Haute Joaillerie Hedgehog Timepiece is set with moonstones quills of 15.05 carats, and pavé-set diamonds, totaling around 4.08 carats. This model is also known as the reference 124446-1001.
