The fascinating history of Titanic s almost a century old. The famous passenger liner cleaved the Atlantic waters for the very first time, On April 2nd 1912 .
Only two weeks later, on 15 April 1912, the epic ship sank after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. This terrible disaster resulted in deaths of 1,514 people including wealthy aristocracy, who wished to cross the Atlantic on the most luxurious and the largest ship at the time, as well as poor emigrants from the Old World, seeking better life in North America. This is one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century, and certainly one that could have been prevented if only the correct safety regulations were applied. At the time the tragedy occurred, Titanic carried only enough lifeboats for 1,178 people, which was merely a third of her total passenger and crew capacity.

The wreck of the Titanic still lies in the bottom of the ocean, and the legend of the famous ship is still alive as the memory of the great tragedy lives through literature, movies and exhibitions. RJ-Romain Jerome, a young Swiss luxury watch company, has paid its tribute to Titanic by issuing the "Titanic-DNA" Collection that comprises of the watches inspired by the famous ship and crafted from materials sourced from the wreck. The "Titanic-DNA" Collection is limited to 2,012 pieces, and now the brand offers two limited series designed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the launch of the Titanic.

The commemorative collection is issued yesterday, on april 2nd, to honor the date on which Titanic set sail for her sea trials. It includes two special limited series : Steampunk Auto 100th Anniversary and Steampunk Chrono 100th Anniversary. Both models are offered in 50 mm-diameter case with rough finishes, topped with a bezel made of oxidized and then stabilized steel. The steel is made from the pieces of the wreck lying 3,840 meters under sea, and from the metal from Harland & Wolff shipyards where the Titanic was built. These anniversary models feature oxidized propellers appearing on the dial, reminiscent of those on the Titanic. The case-back is sealed with a unique medallion, commemorating the date when Titanic begun her maiden voyage.

The watches are issued in two 100-piece limited series . RJ-Romain Jerome Steampunk Auto 100th Anniversary provides indications for central hours and minutes, and small seconds at 9 o’clock . The watch utilizes mechanical self-winding movement RJ001-AS, and comes under the reference number RJ.T.AU.SP.002.02 .
