On the occasion of the BaselWorld 2014 exhibition, Glashutte Original announced the launch of its new Calibre 37. The exquisite new chronograph caliber has just made its debut in two new models at once: the elegant Senator Chronograph Panorama Date and the sporty Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date.
The Glashutte Original Caliber 37 was developed to meet the brand’s highest standards of performance and feasibility. The movement beats at a frequency of 4Hz, ensuring maximum functionality through a range of advanced new features. For example, the switch lever is now constructed from only one component, which guarantees the highest possible switching security. Another innovation that contributes to its reliability is the space-saving coupling, clutch, which is designed to travel the same shortest path when both engaging and disengaging the clutch. Adjustment is controlled without a regulator, using four golden screws mounted on the balance wheel. This way, the watchmakers have ensured more precise performance, especially over longer periods of time.
The Glashutte Original Caliber 37 is automatically wound, and it ensures at least 70 hours of autonomous operation, once fully wound. The movement propels central hour/minute hands, small seconds counter, stop-second hand, a large Panorama Date at 6 o’clock, chronograph with flyback/stop second/30 minute display/12 hour display, and a power reserve indicator.
The new chronograph celebrates its debut in the elegant Senator Chronograph Panorama Date model, which is available in either red gold or platinum. Both versions are paired with a sophisticated silvery dial with a railroad chapter ring, Roman numerals and tachometric scale. The dial is made of solid gold, and decorated using laser engravings, which are then filled with black and fired in the kiln. The silvery hue of the surface is obtained through a process named “silver plating.” It implies mixing a silver powder, salt and water, and rubbing the mixture with a brush into the dial. The final result is a brilliant, evenly shimmering finish.
The 42mm case is nicely polished and completed with a blue sapphire cabochon and Lousiana Alligator leather strap in matching color. The golden version of the Senator Chronograph arrives on a black alligator leather strap with 18-karat red gold folding clasp. The platinum version is mounted on a blue leather strap and paired with a platinum standard fold fastener. The model is water resistant to 50 meters and it features a sapphire crystal case-back.
Both new chronographs are currently on display in the Glashute Original’s boutique in Dresden. The brand’s interactive exhibition gears up for road show in November to generate excitement and interest in Stuttgart, New York and Chicago… Both models will be available for purchase first in the Saxon manufactures own boutiques and later through the brand’s dealers.
