In the vibrant Chinese city of Shanghai, Roger Dubuis unveiled the Excalibur Spider Unique Series, a watch announced as a perfect example of contemporary and expressive Haute Horlogerie. The dynamic new timepiece is actually one of the few minute repeaters to be housed in a carbon case.
The Excalibur Spider Unique series is a modern interpretation of the minute repeater. This is why the brand chose its Excalibur Spider design, which has a unique aggressive aesthetics. The watch features a quite busy, openworked dial which is said to be built like a dashboard with 3 different function indicators.
The face of the watch reveals the exclusive RD107 Minute repeater caliber that combines two practical functions: a minute repeater that chimes the hours, minutes, and quarters on demand, and a flying tourbillon. The movement is powered by two micro-rotors visible through the case-back. The choice of the smaller rotors enables the unobstructed view of the gongs and hammers of the minute repeater complication. The movement allows for about 72 hours of power reserve, and is water resistant to 50 meters.
The watch is presented in a rather large 47mm carbon case enlivened with venom green details. The front of the watch reveals diamond-shaped hour and minute hands and the minute-tourbillon offset at 5 o’clock. The function indicator, which informs the wearer if the crown is engaged in winding or setting, is placed at 3 o’clock. The iconic star-shaped bridge, supporting the mainspring barrel, is painted in vibrant shade of green. A chiming indicator is placed at 10 o’clock, while the All or Nothing indicator at 8 o’clock shows whether the minute repeater trigger is pressed in far enough to activate the striking mechanism.
The new Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Unique Series is stamped with the Poinçon de Genève, which is the ultimate guarantee of the finest traditional watchmaking. This is the highest accolade in the industry, and applies to both the movement and the watch itself. This special edition watch is a unique piece, available in one exemplar only. Reserved for Roger Dubuis’ most loyal fans, the watch comes with a price tag of CHF 568,000.
