Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie Chronograph Secret Alloy Watch

Marina Milojević | 10.30.19 | 09:55 PM

Czapek & Cie, a brand that has been revived in 2015 with Quai des Bergues collection, introduces a new model on the occasion of the Watch Time New York. Appropriately, this stainless steel, 5Hz chronograph is Americas only limited edition available in 18 pieces. The new model belongs to the Faubourg de Cracovie, Chapek’s third collection, Which is named after its third boutique opened in 1850 in Warsaw, Poland. The collection made its debut in 2018, and this year, it gets another version: The Secret Alloy Watch.

The Secret Alloy refers to the material, alloy 401, used for the finely adorned dial. The Secret Alloy is actually a special compound developed for Czapek and made of gold (55%), platinum, palladium, and silver. The inclusion of palladium and titanium makes the alloy stronger than solid gold. A plane round disk of the Secret Alloy had been used as a starting point for creating a beautifully engine-turned guilloché dial. The same pattern can be found in many other Czapek watches, but what this one makes special is the use of the new material. In addition, the material is left untreated, without any paint or lacquer, so it creates great metallic reflections.

Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie Chronograph Secret Alloy Watch

Like all other editions of the Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie, the Secret Alloy watch measures 41.5 mm in diameter with finely integrated chronograph pushers. The rough handcrafted dial reveals chronograph minutes at 3 o’clock, chronograph hours at 9 o’clock, small seconds at 6 o’clock, and a date aperture at 6 o’clock. Batton applied indexes and 12 Arabic numerals are treated with Super-LumiNova.

The sapphire case back with anti-reflective treatment on the inner side reveals the workings of the automatic chronograph movement calibre SXH3. Beating at a high-frequency of 36000 vibrations per hour (5Hz) the movement includes a golden rotor with Czapek logo, providing around 65 hours of power reserve. This COSC-certified chronometer is water resistant to 50 meters and presented on a blue alligator strap with steel folding buckle.

Czapek Faubourg de Cracovie Chronograph Secret Alloy Watch will only be available until Baselworld 2020 at the Czapek’s US retailers. As aforementioned, the model is limited to 18 pieces, while the price is CHF 24,000 (taxes incl.). For more information, please visit czapek.com.

The legendary nineteenth century Swiss watchmaking company - Czapek & Cie - has been revived and is launching today with the 2016 collection featuring Quai des Bergues timepiece.

The original founder of the brand, which was established in 1845, was François Czapek, a Czech-born Polish watchmaker, who settled down in Geneva in 1832. Only four years after, Czapek met Antoine Norbert de Patek, a Polish pioneer in watchmaking and a creator of Patek Philippe & Co. Both were Polish emigres, and survivors of an insurrection that forced them to leave their motherland. On May 1, 1839, the fellow associates joined in the creation of the company Patek, Czapek & Cie. The partnership lasted six successful years, and then each man...
