As mentioned many times before, this is the year in which TAG Heuer celebrates the 50th anniversary of its iconic Monaco timepiece. To honor the golden anniversary, the Swiss brand launched five new Monaco models, each capturing a spirit of one of the Monaco’s decades. The first, inspired by the 70’s, was unveiled at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in May. The second limited edition, dedicated to the 80’s, was presented in June in Le Mans, France. The third edition, inspired by the 1990s, made its grand debut in New York in July, while the Monaco 1999–2009 Limited Edition was recently unveiled in at an exclusive event in Tokyo, Japan. Finally, TAG Heuer presents the most modern Monaco, the fifth anniversary edition representing the decade from 2009 to 2019.
The final timepiece in the series, presented at a special launch event in Shanghai, borrows the design codes from the latest decade. The newest watch in this exclusive limited edition series, features a sharp, uncomplicated, sleek style, which makes it a luxurious everyday object. As with the original, the chronograph pushers are located on the right side of the stainless steel case, while the polished crown is on the right.
The charcoal-colored sunray dial features black gold plated indexes with SuperLuminova, and rhodium-plated subdials with sunray motif. The subdial hands and the central seconds hand are in vibrant shade of red, same as the marker on the 12 o’clock position. The black gold plated hours and minutes hands are also coated with SuperLuminova to ensure legibility in all light conditions.
The Monaco 2009-2019 Limited Edition is paired with a perforated black calfskin strap with black lining and grey stitching. The special case-back features commemorative engravings: with the “Monaco Heuer” logo as well as “2009-2019 Special Edition” and “One of 169”. It also reveals the famous Calibre 11, which is a modern version of the original caliber that made its debut in the first Monaco watch in 1969. The movement is mounted on 59 jewels and it oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, providing around 40 hours of power reserve. Water resistant to 100 meters.
The Monaco 2009-2019 Limited Edition, reference CAW211Z.FC6470, is limited to 169 watches. The watch arrives in a special presentation box inspired by the original Monaco: a dark blue box decorated with the Heuer logo and a horizontal check-pattern stripe.
