Antiquorum's September auction of Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces presented 319 collectible watches and attracted no less than 353 internet and phone bidders from around the world. The auction totaled $2,792,050. The most expensive item of the sale was the Patek Philippe ref. 2499 [lot 319], which was bought for $ 374,500!
The Patek Philippe ref. 1436, a unique split-second chronograph with transitional dial retailed by Tiffany, sold for $284,500 while the Patek Philippe ref. 3971 obtained $116,500. The Patek Philippe ref. 5038, a limited edition white gold perpetual calendar, was sold for $56,250.
According to the results of the auction, Rolex watches are still in the center of collectors’ attention. Rolex James Bond Big Crown with gilt dial was sold for $76,900, while the 18K yellow gold Paul Newman and 14K yellow gold Daytona realized $110,500.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watches were also acquired at high prices. the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar with anthracite dial was sold for $ 31,250, while the limited edition City of Sails" attained $46,250.
Panerai "Mare Nostrum - Slytech" was offered at $10,000 - $15,000 and sold for $25,000
The Tudor Monte-Carlo chronograph from the 1970's, ref. 7159 attained no less than $17,500.
