Boucheron Khepri a Secret

The House of Boucheron has unveiled an interesting new watch that embodies the essence of the skill of its High Jewelers and Watchmakers.

A very small watch case, with just 3cm in diameter is designed as a watchmaking animation module. The watch case features a system that allows the wings-shaped front cover to open smoothly to reveal the hidden dial. The cover glides slowly and fully discloses the watch face in a couple of seconds. The automatic mechanism is hidden in the head of a diamond-set insect. A blue sapphire cabochon triggers the mechanism and activates the opening of the four wings. The upper wings are gadroon-sculpted and crafted from mother-of-pearl, while the smaller wings feature delicate setting of diamonds and blue sapphires. The mechanism is composed of 40 individual parts which have been so skilfully combined that they remain fully hidden in a miniature body.

Boucheron Khepri a Secret

There is no official information about this watch yet, but the line of Boucheron’s inspiration can be traced down to an ancient Egyptian god named Khepri. Khepri represented creation and rebirth and it appeared in Egyptian folklore in connection to the rising Sun and the mythological creation of the world. Khepri was associated with the scrab beetle, which is known to roll balls of dung across the ground – symbolizing the forces that animate the Sun across the sky. This is why Boucheron’s new creation replicates a beetle.
