On the occasion of the BaselWorld watch and jewelry show, the house of Breitling revisits one of its iconic models, the legendary Navitimer. A true pilot’s watch, the first Navitimer was designed and developed in 1952. What made it so special was the innovative slide rule that enabled pilots to perform all crucial flight calculations. Until this day it remains the world’s oldest continuously produced chronograph.
This year, Breitling is unveiling the Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition, a watch that replicates one of the early designs of the Navitimer. The faithful re-edition of the reference 806 incorporates the same black dial with tone on tone counter, a rotating inner bezel and modern Super-LumiNova accents. This special model has been created in an edition limited to 1959 pieces, all individually numbered and engraved on the case-back. The famous watchmaker has also announced that subsequent launches are planed for the future.
The dial is decorated with a Breitling inscription in capital letters and an unsigned winged logo, which was historically used exclusively for the European market. Furthermore, the watch has a rotating beaded bezel made of precisely 94 beads, exactly the number found on the original model. The Breitling Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition is crafted from stainless steel and it measures 40.9 millimeters in diameter. This time, however, the water resistance of the case has been increased to 30 meters.
Another innovation is a completely new hand-wound movement, based on the Breitling’s in-house Manufacture Caliber 01. Like all Breitling watches, this one is also a COSC-certified chronometer. Breitling Navitimer Ref. 806 1959 Re-Edition is mounted on a black vintage-inspired leather strap with pin buckle. The watch (ref. AB0910371B1X1) will be available for purchase from June 2019, priced at US $ 8600 before taxes.
