Burberry has something in store for this year’s edition of the BaselWorld trade show. The famous luxury fashion house announces the Britain Icon Check collection, which comprises two beautiful models designed by Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey.
Burberry The Britain Icon Check Collection features two numbered limited edition models, one designed for men, and another one for women. Both models are distinguished by their “Check” motif dials, which is a motif commonly featured on the lining of the brand’s trench coats. Since Burberry is most famous for its trench coat - which was designed by the founder of the brand Thomas Burberry, in the 1920s - the collection is sort of a tribute to the brand’s rich heritage… The check motif here appears in the form of a grid pattern, as an openworked motif in a men’s version, or as an interwoven diamond grid design, for ladies.
Even though Burberry is a British luxury brand, both of its new models were entirely crafted in Switzerland. The men’s version is limited to 20 pieces worldwide, while the ladies’ variant is made exclusively to order.
The Britain Icon Check for Men Limited Edition is made of polished and brushed anthracite DLC-treated titanium. The watch features a finely rounded cushion-shaped case that measures 45 mm in diameter, and it promises around 50 meters of water resistance. Its dial is made of anthracite DLC-treated titanium, and it features an openwork design that provides glimpses of the Swiss-made mechanical hand-wound caliber. The movement is a modified version of the ETA 2824-2 base calibre, which is built on 17 jewels, and beats at 28,800 vib/h. In addition to hours, minutes and seconds, this watch also informs its wearer about the current date. Burberry’s Britain Icon Check for Men is mounted on a black alligator leather strap with folding clasp.
The Britain Icon Check for Women Is even more exclusive, since it is made exclusively to order. The famous Check motif is here rendered in diamonds, which were handset on a mother-of-pearl dial. The 38 mm case is made of polished and brushed 18-karat pink gold, while its bezel is set with 124 diamonds (0.868 cts). The storm grey mother-of-pearl dial is set with additional 245 diamonds (1.163 cts), and complemented with the storm grey alligator leather strap with folding clasp. The watch is powered by the mechanical automatic STP3-13 swan’s neck calibre, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vib/h, and provides 44 hours of power reserve. The bridges of the movement are also adorned with check motif.
