The newest exciting release from Swiss watchmaking brands is born from collaboration of two of the most exclusive contemporary brands - Urwerk and MB&F- and Eric Giroud, a product designer who is most commonly mentioned as co-creator of the magnificent Harry Winston Opus 9. From such an exciting trio, one can expect nothing less than an extraordinary, unique piece of ingenious design and supreme technical excellence. Three of them have joined their forces to create an experimental platform, and not a luxury brand, named C3H5N3O9. The same name is used for the molecular formula for nitroglycerine, which is an active ingredient in the manufacture of explosives.

The fruit of their work is a new experimental watch named ZR012, available in only 12 pieces. The watch-case embodies DNA of both brands, reflecting truly what is often called “the future of watchmaking.” The shape of the housing and the complicated architecture of the dial, echo main design features of Urwerk’s 200 Collection and recall some of Eric Giroud’s most complex signature design-solutions. The watch is crafted from zirconium, and it bears titanium lugs. It is available in only 12 exemplars and it retails for 110,000 CHF, starting from July 2012.

Experiment ZR012 by C3H5N3O9 features Wankel engine inspired hour and minute indications. The the triangles seen on the dial are actually Releaux polygons, rotating eccentrically and tracking complex epitrochroid curves. The system was inspired by the Wankel engine that powers the majority cars and machines today.
