In a first for the brand, Jaquet Droz presents the Grande Seconde Chronograph. The new model arrives in a limited edition of 88 exemplars, emphasizing the Maison’s emblematic lucky number 8, the symbol of infinity and completeness. The limited edition inaugural series is also complemented with three permanent additions to the collection.

With the new model, the monopusher chronograph makes its entry into the Jaquet Droz collection. To make this possible, the watchmaker had to produce a brand new exclusive in-house movement that would be reliable under all circumstances, and designed in such a manner to keep up with the clean lines of the iconic Grande Seconde.
The self-winding movement Jaquet Droz 26M5R uses a column wheel construction and a silicon balance spring, which guarantees resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variations. The monopusher construction also allows the clean lines of the Grande Seconde to stay intact. A single piece is needed to stop, start, or reset the chronograph, so the purity of the case remains undisturbed. The movement is equipped with an 18-karat red gold oscillating weight, which can be admired through a sapphire case-back engraved with the limited serial number. Thanks to a single barrel, this 3Hz movement offers around 40 hours of power reserve.
The highly limited inaugural edition, of only 88 pieces, is crafted from red gold. The watch features an ivory-colored Grand Feu dial, evocative of the historical pocket watches made by Pierre Jaquet-Droz. The dial reveals a combo of Arabic and Roman numerals created using Petit Feu enameling. The watch has its hour, minute, and date hands rendered in red gold, while the chronograph seconds and minute hands are in blued steel.

The minute and seconds display are in blue Petit Feu enamel, while a red-tipped gold hand indicates the retrograde date. The perfect number 8 architecture, emblematic for the Grande Seconde collection, remains intact with the hours and minutes counter at 12 o’clock, and the chronograph 30-minute subdial and pointer-type retrograde date display at 6 o’clock. The piece measures 43 mm in diameter and 14.82 in thickness, while the water resistance level is rated to 30 meters.

In addition to the limited edition Grande Seconde Chronograph, Jaquet Droz presents a trio of more contemporary variations in stainless steel. These generously sized watches measure 43 mm in diameter and their hand-finished, dry sandblasting dials are available in a choice of silver, blue, or taupe gray. This is another novelty for the Grande Seconde family, since the new blue and warm gray tones have never previously been used by Jaquet Droz. Another standout feature is the off-center dial, and a crown shifted to 4 o’clock. All four versions are powered by the same new movement, Jaquet Droz 26M5R, which is, in the permanent variants, slightly shifted clockwise.
