Polka Dot Tambourine designed by Louis Vuitton with Yayoi Kusama and Marc Jacobs
The new Louis Vuitton watch doesn't exactly fit into our standard editorial selection, but this piece is not something you see every day. The funky red polka-dot timepiece is very charming and it definitely deserves your attention. This is a special limited edition of Louis Vuitton's Tambour model, designed in collaborating with Yayoi Kusama and Marc Jacobs. The watch will be available exclusively at Louis Vuitton boutiques and at temporary installation at Paris’ Printemps department store - Kusama-inspired Louis Vuitton sales point.
Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist and writer best known for her pop art, minimalist works based on interesting patterns and repetition. She influenced famous contemporary artists such as Andy Warhol, for example. One of the most recognizable motifs in her work are the polka dots that she uses as a pattern for walls, canvases, household objects, and even naked bodies. In her own words "...a polka-dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colorful, senseless and unknowing. Polka-dots become movement... Polka dots are a way to infinity."
Marc Jacobs, on the other hand, is one of the most talked about fashion designers of our times, and also the one that shows polka dots on everything - from the falcons of his fragrances to the clothes and accessories.
Now the playful caprice of the polka dots arrives on all 188 pieces of this special edition. The watch is designed for ladies and it arrives in 29mm case diameter, powered by quartz movement. There are also ten sparkling diamonds embedded in the red lacquered surface of a dial, serving as time-markers. The bracelet features Louis Vuitton monogram and it repeats the same playful design.
