For BaselWorld 2016, the house of Movado presents a new version of its Museum Classic watch.
This time, the Movado Museum Classic arrives in an intense black version, with gold-colored hands, and polished yellow gold-treated stainless steel case.
The new reference is a member of the historical Museum collection, which is distinguished by its streamlined and modern design. Strongly influenced by the aesthetic codes of the Bauhaus movement, the Movado Museum dial focuses on simplicity, tastefulness, and function. The first of Museum dials was designed by American artist Nathan George Horwitt, in 1947. He wanted to create the purest possible expression of time, by combining a deep blue dial with a single gold dot at 12 o'clock, symbolizing the sun at high noon: “We do not know time as a number sequence, but by the position of the sun as the earth rotates."

This abstract and simplified dial design has joined the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1960. Just for the record, Movado’s Museum timepiece is the first watch ever awarded this special honor. Today, Movado continues to design and produce a wide collection of singular Movado timepieces with Museum dials, perpetuating the fame of the true icon of contemporary watchmaking.
In its latest rendition Movado Museum Classic measures 40mm in diameter, and features the famous concave dot at 12 o’clock. The numerals and time markers are also completely removed, but, thanks to the Quartz movement, this watch provides indications for hours and minutes. Movado The eminent dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, and sealed against the ingress of water to up to 30 meters. The watch is mounted on a black calfskin leather strap, with a polished yellow gold PVD-treated stainless steel pin buckle. The watch is priced at $595.00.
