The Only Watch charity watch auction took place on September 23, 2011. This event, extensively covered in many of our previous articles, raised €4,563,000 this year, to support Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Research.
The special guest at the auction, which was held at the Hotel Hermitage in Monaco, was the Ronnie Woods of the Rolling Stones. The auction was organized in the presence and under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
This year’s event was even more successful than the previous one, from 2009, that generated €2,285,500. Luc Pettavino, President of the Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies and founder of Only Watch comments this year’s results: “With €4.5 million, the auction result is more than exceptional. Only Watch 2011 is the fruit of an excellent collaboration between watch manufactures, partners, media, organizers… but it is first and foremost an outstanding work done by men and women coming from very different horizons who joined their energies to create hope in research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.”
Expressed in American Dollars, the auction raised no less than $6,150,000. However, note that more than 65% of the watches were sold below the average wish price. Here are the top five lots:

This stainless steel watch is a manually-wound minute repeater with tourbillon. Acquired for €1,400,000.
Richard Mille 027 Tourbilon Rafael Nadal watch
Tonneau shaped watch with one-minute tourbillon regulator made of carbon, titanium and Lital. Acquired for €510,000.
DeWitt Concept Watch No. 3 - X-Watch
A watch made of titanium and stainless steel, reversible and fitted with double bi-retrograde hours and minutes, one-minute tourbillon, power reserve, and chronograph. Acquired for €410,000.
BLU Gagarin Platinum Flying Tourbillon
This watch is issued to celebrate 50th anniversary of the first human to journey into outer space, performed by Yuri Gagarin. The watch is made in platinum and features a 108-minute orbiting one-minute flying tourbillon, rotating magnifying glass and hand-engraved map of the world made of gold. Acquired for €300,000.
Van Cleef & Arpels, Poetic Complication “From the Earth to the Moon”
This watch is made of white gold and boasts a dial crafted in champlevé enamel technique. The watch celebrates life and work of Jules Verne. Acquired for €215,000.
