Piaget offers a unique interpretation of watchmaking and jewelry arts - the Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon Diamond-Set Automatic Skeleton Exceptional Piece
Piaget’s new Emperador Coussin Tourbillon diamond-set automatic skeleton exceptional piece, unveiled at the SIHH 2014 exhibition, is the only baguette-set skeleton movement currently available on the watch market. The new exceptional piece represents the highpoint of the watchmaking and jewelry arts, as it combines refined openworked profile, diamonds, and the ultra-thin automatic flying tourbillon movement, calibre 1270D. The Maison Piaget, known as the house of masters of ultra-thin horology, is also a creator of unique, fine Swiss-made jewelry. Thanks to these matching proficiencies, Piaget is able to create some of the world’s most astonishing mechanical treasures, made from the most precious metals and stones. The new Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon is one of these extraordinary pieces, the worthy heir of the first gem-set skeleton movement ever made – Piaget’s Calibre 600D, from 2005.

Now, after almost a decade, Piaget goes a step further, equipping the exceptional skeleton movement with a flying tourbillon, which is considered one of the most demanding horological complications. Another great accomplishment for the Maison of Piaget is a new slimness record in its category – the new Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon Diamond-Set Automatic Skeleton watch is only 3.5 mm thin.

To this very day, Piaget is the only watchmaking brand capable of gem-setting the components of an ultra-thin movement and, this year, the brand goes one step further presenting the unique baguette-set skeleton movement Calibre 1270D, which is made from 14-carat gold. The mechanism is embellished with dazzling white diamonds that form a figure 8 around the rings. The diamonds are encircling the flying tourbillon carriage and the platinum oscillating weight, which is also entirely paved but with baguette-cut diamonds. The bridge side and the mainplate side are both paved with 71 baguette-cut diamonds (around 1.1 carats) and 561 round diamonds (1.8 carats), which requires no less than 47 hours of setting for each individual movement.

Visible on the dial side are the oscillating weight and the bridges, while the flying tourbillon, bearing the P for Piaget, rotates freely at 2 o’clock. The tourbillon and the hour and minute indication are placed at off-centered spots, while the fully set mainplate appears visible through the sapphire case-back. In total, Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon features no less than 1,450 diamonds totalling 19.8 carats. The watch is crafted from 18-carat white gold case and it measures 49 mm in diameter.

The Piaget Emperador Coussin Exceptional Piece is referenced as G0A39039. The watch is available in a numbered edition and, since it is entirely hand-set, each of the pieces from this series is absolutely unique. Black alligator strap. 44 Hours of power reserve.
