In 2019, TAG Heuer celebrates the 50th anniversary of its iconic Monaco timepiece. To honor the special milestone, TAG Heuer is, throughout 2019, launching five new Monaco models, each capturing a spirit of one of the bygone decades. The first of these models, inspired by the 70’s, was unveiled at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix in May. The second limited edition, dedicated to the roaring 80’s, was presented in June in Le Mans, France. The third edition of the new Monaco watch, inspired by the 1990s, made its grand debut in New York in July, while the latest Monaco 1999–2009 Limited Edition was recently unveiled in at an exclusive event in Tokyo, Japan.
The fourth collector’s piece is inspired by the sleek design of the early 2000s. The watch is made from stainless steel and, just like the original, it has pushers on the right side of the case, while the crown is on the left. The black and white color scheme, with black dial and white opaline seconds sub-dial and chronograph minutes counter, highlights the unusual shape of the case. The sober dial is highlighted by vibrant red and orange hour markers, an orange seconds hand, and red-tipped hour and minute hands filled with Superluminova.
The solid case-back of this commemorative model is engraved with the “Monaco Heuer” logo as well as “1999-2009 Special Edition” and “One of 169”. This also tells us that the watch has been produced in an edition limited to 169 pieces, commemorating the year in which the Monaco made its debut. Underneath the back cover is the iconic Calibre 11, renowned as the world’s first automatic chronograph movement. The Calibre 11 oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, ensuring about 40 hours of power reserve. Its functions include chronograph with seconds and minutes; date, hours, minutes and small second at 3 o’clock; chronograph minutes counter at 9 o’clock; and central chronograph seconds hand.
The Monaco 1999-2009 Limited Edition, reference CAW211Y.FC6469, is paired with a black calfskin leather strap with polished steel folding clasp. Each watch from the Monaco Through Time line-up comes in a presentation box with colors that match the watch and the decade it represents.
For the 2000s-inspired model, the box is dark blue, decorated with the Heuer logo and a horizontal check-pattern stripe. The watch rests on a grey cushion and surrounded by an orange interior. The 169-piece limited edition watch comes with a price tag of $6,550. For more information, please visit tagheuer.com.
