As a matter of fact, the Franck Muller brand was a pioneer in the use of bold colors for its dials. The designers of the Franck Muller House drew their inspiration from the warm and enticing tones of chocolate for a new dial color. In the Western culture, brown is associated with nature, earthiness and warmth and has welcoming and sensuous qualities. The matte chocolate brown dial is first sun-stamped, and then a galvanic color is applied. A layer of paint and one of transparent protection follow. The tourbillon was designed for the pocket watch and so for a vertical position. With a wrist watch, however, the average position may vary considerably depending on the wearer's movements and this, in turn, can give rise to significant variations in running. To overcome this disadvantage, Franck Muller's engineers have designed a tri-axial tourbillon arranged as follows: the balance wheel and escapement rotating about its axis are contained in Cage A; Cage A is in turn mounted inside Cage B, so that it can turn about another axis; and Cage B is mounted inside Cage C, which turns about an axis fixed in relation to the timepiece. This manually wound mechanical timepiece provides continuous indication of hours carriage. There is also a retrograde indication: seconds carriage revolving in 60 seconds. Middle carriage revolving in 8 minutes. The movement is decorated by hand-engraving inspired from Nordic-Celtic art. The watch is crafted in 950 platinum, with transparent case-back. Triaxial tourbillon The originality of the triaxial tourbillon is that two frames as well as the tourbillon are set in motion on three different perpendicular axes. So it is that, in an hour, being how long it takes for the first frame to complete a revolution, the tourbillon will have passed through all possible positions and will have compensated for any possible running variations. To obtain this result, a double barrel, acting through the minutes wheel, drives a first frame which completes a revolution in one hour. The second frame, driven by the first, completes one revolution in eight minutes. The tourbillon, carrying the escapement and the balance-wheel, is driven by the second frame and completes a revolution in sixty seconds. Apart from the great ingenuity of the design, the true connoisseur of the watchmakers art will appreciate the virtuosity inherent in the realization of the tourbillon movement. Its stunning beauty is the result of one of the most difficult exercises in the luxury watchmaking industry. Power reserve An ingenious power-reserve mechanism actuated by the barrel ar-bour (patented by Franck Muller) makes it possible to indicate, with a hand placed at 12 oclock on a scale graduated from 0 to 10, how many days power reserve remain. Perpetual calendar The calendar mechanism, just as the basic movement, is entirely designed and manufactured in Watchland. Its special characteristic lies in a design very different from that of the traditional calendar mechanism, in order to allow the tourbillon to be visible through the dial, as in all other Franck Muller movements.
