Breitling has redesigned the entire Colt collection
Breitling has redesigned its famous Colt collection of military-inspired watches. This emblematic range, which was launched almost 25 years ago (in 1980) was initially developed for the arm forces. However, thanks to its amazing design and excellent performance, it soon became one of the most commercially successful models, same as its predecessors - the Navitimer and Chronomat. This year, the famous Swiss brand revamps the old legend and proposes a couple of subtle changes that contribute to Colt’s more contemporary styling, while preserving all of its essential assets.
Breitling Colt watches are now topped with a wide unidirectional rotating bezel, which is satin-finished, engraved with hour-markers and decorated with four rider tabs. The watches are made of stainless steel, and they arrive in specially constructed cases with a large screw-locked crown and protective reinforcements, guaranteeing no less than 200 meters of water resistance. Breitling Colt is offered in three color options for the dial, to match customers’ personal preferences. One can chose from black, blue or silver dials, which are decorated by the same circular raised motif and paired with oversized hands and hour-markers that are glowing in the dark.
By default, Breitling’s Colt models are mounted on stainless steel bracelets, but these may be replaced by rubber or leather straps, allowing customers to personalize and design their own watch. Breitling’s Colt for 2014 is offered in four different variants: a 44mm watches with COSC-certified movement - Colt Automatic, the Thermocompensated superquartz-powered Colt Chronograph and Colt Quartz, which are ten times more accurate than the standard quartz; and Breitling Colt Lady, which is much smaller than the men’s versions and available with an optionally gem-set bezel.
In this article, I’ll focus on Breitling Colt Chronograph, but I’ll take a closer look at each of the remaining three models in my future posts. Breitling Colt Chronograph for 2014 is powered by the Breitling 75 movement, which is actually a superior Quartz movement, ten times more accurate than standard quartz and, thus, more accurate than any mechanical movement. Quartz movements use an electronic oscillator that is regulated by a quartz crystal, which emits a signal of very precise frequency. The movement provides fast time zone adjustment system, and powers an accurate 1/10th of a second chronograph, with its 60-minute and 12-hour totalizers with split times (split-second hand).
As already mentioned, Breitling’s Colt Chronograph for 2014 is made of stainless steel and it measures 44mm in diameter. The watch is water resistant to 200m or 660ft, it features a screw-locked crown, unidirectional ratcheted rotating bezel, and sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. The dial options include Volcano black, Mariner blue, and Stratus silver, while straps and bracelets come in three different options: leather, rubber Ocean Racer, rubber Diver Pro/Professional.
