Japanese clothing brand BAPE (A Bathing Ape) celebrates its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the brand began the "BAPE XXV project" on April 1st, 2018, partnering with a great number of brands to design unique BAPE-inspired products and art pieces. There are 25 different collaborations in total, including some of the well-known upscale brands such as Swarovski, Montblanc, and Bell & Ross.
Today, we’ll take a closer look at the Bell & Ross BAPE BR03-92 25th Anniversary & Green Camo, the first collaboration between Bell & Ross and BAPE. The collaboration includes two limited edition watches, both in emblematic square black ceramic cases. Both new models are based on the Bell & Ross BR03-92 model, crafted from matte black ceramic and generously sized at 42mm in diameter.
The first is the 25th Anniversary edition, which is produced in a limited run of 25 pieces, and the second, available in 100 pieces, features a green camouflage pattern on the dial (BAPE’s signature print). The design of the watches is inspired by military techniques for maximum readability. Both of the models feature a sandwich-type dial, which is historically associated with Panerai’s military watches designed for the Italian navy. The dial is made of two superimposed plates enfolding luminous material. The luminescence is visible in the low light condition, as it shines through the hour-marker apertures in the upper plate.
The BR03-92 25th Anniversary features a plain black dial, offering a strong contrast. BAPE’s logo appears at 6 o’clock position, a date window is situated between 4 and 5 o’clock, there are three oversized Arabic numerals for 3, 9, and 12, and Superluminova C3 indices and hands. This model is presented in a Pelican box along with two straps: a black rubber strap with BAPE’s logo, and a leather strap in BAPE’s signature grey camouflage print.
The Green Camo model has a camouflage dial with white SuperLuminova accents. Just like the other watch, it features a solid case-back with a special commemorative BAPO engraving and limited edition number. This model is delivered only with a rubber strap, inside a standard Bell & Ross box that’s enclosed in green camo outer box.
The BAPO editions are powered by the Bell & Ross BR Caliber 302, base Sellita SW300-1. This automatic movement beats at a frequency of 28,800vph, offering around 40 hours of power reserve. Both watches were available only at Bell & Ross boutiques via balloting, but they are already sold out. The BR03-92 25th Anniversary (ref. BR0392-BAPE-25-CE) is priced at $4,400 and the BR03-92 Green Camo (ref. BR0392-BAPE-GN-CE) is priced at $4,400.
