Back in 2016, Bell & Ross introduced its first completely transparent watch – the BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon Sapphire. Today, on the occasion of the BaselWorld Watch and Jewelry Show, the brand reveals a skeletonized version of the exceptional mode, available in three different variants. There are six new unique pieces in total, available in three colorways, two of which are online exclusives.
Bell & Ross BR-X1 Tourbillon Sapphire – Black
BRX1-SKTB-SABLK
The case of the BR-X1 Chronograph Tourbillon Sapphire is made from five blocks of sapphire, the second hardest material on Earth after diamond. Sapphire is very hard, almost impossible to scratch, so creating a case from a block of sapphire poses a true technical challenge for watchmakers. The process involves long and complex machining, grinding, and polishing. The final product is a beautifully transparent case that completely reveals the delicate movement paired with a flying tourbillon that appears to float weightlessly.
Bell & Ross BR-X1 Tourbillon Sapphire – Gold
BRX1-SKTB-SA4N
This year’s model features an entirely skeletonized tourbillon with a lace effect on the openworked bridges. In addition, the hours and minutes dial is now off-centered and specifically designed to reveal the whole of the movement. The new model marries extreme transparency with color. The brand has produced a number of monochrome movements intended for its most discerning collectors. A single shade has been used for the main plate, bridges, dial, hands and tourbillon cage.
Bell & Ross BR-X1 Tourbillon Sapphire – Blue
BRX1-SKTB-SABLU
The first of these three exclusive pieces is black, which offers the strongest contrast with the transparent sapphire case and the translucent bracelet. The visible metal components of the second version are made from solid pink gold, while the third model is inspired by the blued hands of vintage timepieces. Each of them is housed in a 45mm diameter case equipped with the hand-wound caliber BR-CAL.288. The skeletonized tourbillon movement is mounted on 20 jewels, it beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph, and provides 100 hours of power reserve.

The black version will be available exclusively online from the Bell & Ross e-boutique, while the blue one will be available from 21 March on Mr. Porter at £355,000 ($480,000; €400,000).
