The house of Blancpain introduces its new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph Blancpain Ocean Commitment II, a watch that reinforces its commitment in exploration and preservation of the oceans.
The famous Swiss manufacturer has been historically associated with diving for more than 60 years, since the launch of the Fifty Fathoms diving timepiece, in 1953. This was the first modern diving watch in the world, so Blancpain pays it a noble tribute by supporting environmental protection and sponsoring various underwater projects, such as oceanographic explorations, exhibitions, underwater photography, and high-profile publications. Since 2014, Blancpain's long-standing financial support of oceanic environmental causes is concreted under the title “Blancpain Ocean Commitment,” as well with the series of BOC limited edition watches.
The latest oceanic timepiece to join the BOC collection is the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph Blancpain Ocean Commitment II, a 250-piece limited edition watch. For each timepiece sold, Blancpain will donate an amount of 1,000 Euro in support of scientific expeditions – 250.000 Euros in total!
For the first time ever, the Fifty Fathoms timepiece comes in a blue ceramic case, a color that is achieved by adding blue pigments during the ceramic production process. The result is an intense, mysterious hue evocative of the ocean depths. The watch case, measuring 43.60 mm in diameter houses an F385 caliber, which beats at a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations an hour, providing up to a tenth of a second accurate measurements and a power reserve of 50 hours. The F385 has a variable-inertia balance with gold screws, and is driven by a column-wheel. Like all recent movements produced in-house by the Manufacture Blancpain, this caliber is fitted with a silicon balance-spring.
The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph BOC II is water resistant to 300 meters of depth, and it features a unidirectional bezel with gray inserts and Liquidmetal hour-markers. Its flyback function instantly resets the chronograph hand by simply pressing a dedicated pusher at 4 o’clock. The see-through case-back provides a glimpse of the special oscillating weight, engraved with the “Ocean Commitment” inscription.
Every owner of this limited edition timepiece will be invited to become a member of the “Ocean Commitment Circle,” as a privileged activist and supporter. In addition, all purchasers of the watch will receive an exclusive copy of a new book entitled “Hans Hass, Awakening to a New World,” which highlights a manuscript that this pioneering diver wrote during the 1960’s, and which, to date, has never before been fully published.
The new Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph Blancpain Ocean Commitment II timepiece, reference number 5200-0310-G52 A, retails at € 18.760 Euro, or CHF 18,800. The watch features a brushed, sunray-patterned grey meteorite dial, and a blue sailcloth strap. More information at blancpain.com.

Blancpain Métiers d’Art Villeret Ganesh
The image of the godlike creature was rendered using the arts of fine engraving, damascening, and shakudō.
