The house of Breguet has finally revealed its new 2019 collection featuring the magnificent new Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat 5395 that enriches the Classique Grandes Complications line. This extraordinary watch with a fully skeletonized movement is a beautiful example of both technical and artistic achievements in the field of watchmaking. The proprietary calibre 581, used in this watch, is heavily skeletonized and decorated in-house. There are two versions to choose from: one in 18k rose gold, and one in platinum.
The Extra-Plat in its name refers to extreme slenderness. This ultra-thin watch is 41mm wide and only 7.7mm thick. The case is water resistant to 30 meters. The watch features two recognizable, blued Breguet-type hands traveling around the hours and minutes chapter ring that is printed on a sapphire crystal. Each of the Roman numerals is crowned by a tiny pyramid hour-marker made of blued steel. A tourbillon appears in its traditional position, at 6 o’clock, sharing the same space with the running seconds hand.
Underneath the sapphire crystal, which protects both the front and the back of the watch, beats the skeletonized caliber 581SQ, which is only 3mm thick. This is a self-winding mechanical movement with a peripheral oscillating weight in platinum, and a balance spring and wheel made of silicon. The movement is assembled of 325 components and 33 jewels, it beats at a frequency of 4Hz and provides approximately 80 hours of power reserve.
The Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Squelette, 5395 reference 5395BR/1S/9WU, in 18k rose gold retails for 220,000 CHF. The platinum version, reference 5395PT/RS/9WU, is 235,000 CHF. For more information, please visit breguet.com.
