Breitling introduces the Superocean 44 Special timepiece. The ocean pilot.
The watch belongs to Breitling’s line of diving watches, which was first introduced in 1957. This time, the special version of the famous Superocean marries all of the distinctive features of an aviator-type watch with a superior level of water resistance, which is typical for divers’ watches! The new ocean pilot watch borrows the excellent readability of the aviator-type watches, and pairs it with large, luminescent indications and highly waterproof case! The Breitling Superocean 44 Special is water resistant to a depth of 1000 meters (or 3,300 ft), which places it in the category of professional dive watches.
The new Superocean 44 Special features an original design in which every aspect is intended to meet the demands of a genuine diver’s watch. The black and white watch face is now paired with a black PVD-coated steel case, black ceramic bezel, and black rubber strap. The sturdy case, measuring 44mm in diameter, is fitted with a safety valve, which normalizes the differences in pressure inside and outside the watch.
The rotating bezel, made of shiny black ceramic, is used for calculating dive times. Its unidirectional rotating system prevents any accidental turning of the bezel, and risk of computing the wrong length of a dive. The ratcheted profile of the bezel is designed to ensure easy handling, even when wearing gloves.
In accordance to the ISO standards for dive watches, the contrast between black body and white indications is accentuated by luminescent coating. The oversized markers are paired with large baton-type hands and the red-tipped seconds had with small triangle. The latter serves to provide quick indication whether the movement is operating.
Breitling Superocean 44 Special is powered by the Breitling Caliber 17, which is officially certified by the COSC. The high-frequency movement is built at 25 jewels, and it beats at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch is offered with a choice of rubber Ocean Racer or Diver Pro bracelets.
