Girard-Perregaux 1966 41mm

Marina Milojević | 10.11.12 | 10:26 AM

Girard-Perregaux has just unveiled another version of their timelessly elegant 1966 mode which will, from now on, also be available in a slightly larger 41mm-diameter case.

The original Girard-Perregaux (ref 49525-52-131-BK6A) is presented in a 38-mm case diameter, and it looks almost exactly the same as its larger couple. In the case of Girard-Perregaux 1966, the larger housing isn't only an aesthetic feature or a commercial attempt to please the customers who would prefer a slightly larger watch. This time the stylish Girard-Perregaux 1966 houses the GP4500 caliber, instead of the GP3300, which was used for the 38mm model.

The self-winding mechanical calibre GP4500 is an in-house creation developed by Girard-Perregaux Research and Development department, which guarantees the highest levels of its quality and reliability. The calibre GP4500 is built on 188 components, fitted with a pink-gold oscillating weight and endowed with 54 hours of power reserve. The large bridges of the movement are meticulously finished and graced with Côtes de Genève motif. A major part of the movement is hidden below the bridges where the larger barrel and the mainspring provide greater amount of power reserve. The movement also utilizes the double 3rd barrel which minimizes the size of the 4th wheel and allows more space for the barrel. It took the brand four years to develop this movement having two major considerations in mind: to make a mechanism that will be able to stand daily wear over a long time, while being exceptional in the terms of performance quality.

One of the most interesting astronomical watches of the year is the Girard-Perregaux Cosmos, a watch that made it to the GPHG’s list of pre-selected watches in the Calendar and Astronomy category. This poetic and highly complicated timepiece, belonging to the Bridges collection, is a stunning interpretation of the “Earth to Sky” theme. Dominating the center of the dial are two complete globes – celestial and terrestrial. At 3 o’clock, a terrestrial globe serves as a day/night indicator, while a sky chart occupies the 9 o’clock position. The ho...

Aptly named Blue Moon, the watch features a gradient blue dial, lighter in the center and darker towards the outer edges. BaselWorld 2017

In 2008, the house of Girard-Perregaux introduced the Constant Escapement, a major watchmaking breakthrough with a frame integrating a silicon blade thinner than a human hair. Providing constant amplitude and constant rate, the new constant-force escapement revolutionized the foundations of chronometry by ensuring that the watch will beat at a constant rate no matter how much power remains in the barrels. At this year’s BaselWorld watch and jewelry show, exactly ten years since the launch of the first Constant Escapement, that won the presti...
