Girard-Perregaux presents its new Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT model, which is desgined specifically for international traveling watch aficionados. The new Traveller is available in three different variants – in either steel, pink gold, or in a special limited edition dedicated to the famous English carpenter and clockmaker John Harrison, to pay a tribute to mark the 300th anniversary of the Longitude Act.
Girard-Perregaux Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT is contemporary sized at 44mm in diameter. This watch, which is intended to be a gentlemen’s companion for trips across the world, is designed to offer maximum comfort. The generously sized case is cozily curved and paired with a slim bezel combined with a deep flange. The watch informs its wearer about the time in the second time zone via the dedicated counter positioned at 4 and 5 o'clock, while the information about the current date is displayed through an aperture situated at 12 o’clock. These practical indications are joined by the utterly romantic moon phase indicator, which illustrates the current phase of the Moon, through the aperture opened into the permanent seconds counter.
The dial of the new Girard-Perregaux Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT is graced by a geographic pattern, which is inspired by the Earth's intertwining meridians and parallels, which are merging into the dial's slender indexes.
Girard-Perregaux Traveller Large Date, Moon Phases & GMT is powered by the in-house caliber GP03300-0093. This self-winding mechanical movement can be admired through the transparent case-back, as it reveals its gorgeously finished surfaces and the oscillating weight inspired by the shape of the Girard-Perregaux tourbillon bridge. The movement beats at 28,000 vibrations per hour, ensuring at least 46 hours of power reserve.
The John Harrison Limited Series version of Girard-Perregaux’s Traveller is restricted to 50 pieces, and it pays a tribute to the tercentenary of the passing of the Longitude Act by the British Parliament. John Harrison will be remembered as a self-taught clockmaker and the inventor of the first instrument that was able to measure a ship’s longitude at sea. His original solution was proposed in 1735 – fully 21 years after the passing of the Longitude Act. Harrison offered a guarantee a sailing ship could reach its destination after a six weeks' voyage to the West Indies with an accuracy of at least 30 nautical miles.
The Traveller Large Date, Moon Phase & GMT Tribute to John Harrison watch is issued in a limited-series edition restricted to 50 pieces in 18-karat pink gold. The dial of this special piece has also been designed to recall John Harrison’s achievements. . One of the meridians engraved onto the dial is highlighted to exemplify the original prime meridian, corresponding to that of Greenwich in England, which was used by Harrison to define a standard reference time. Additionally, the insert in the second time-zone counter, a map of Western Europe, is rendered in black on an anthracite-gray background. Bright red is used to outline Great Britain, which is John Harrison's motherland.
