Introducing the Glashutte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date model.

As mentioned so many times during the last couple of weeks, Glashutte Original has finally unveiled its new in-house chronograph caliber 37, a movement that just made its debut in two new models: the sophisticated Senator Chronograph Panorama Date and more casual Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. Both new models were officially unveiled a couple of days ago, at the Art of Chronograph event at the Sky Room of the New Museum in New York City (you can read our coverage of the event here). I have already introduced you with the Senator model, in one of my recent articles, and now is the time to take a closer look at the Glashutte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date model.

The new Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date, a new model in the 20th Century Vintage Collection, was announced on the occasion of the BaselWorld 2014 exhibition, and previewed in three different versions, with dials in galvanized ruthenium, galvanized silver or blue. This vintage-inspired model captures the look and feel of the bygone decade of the seventies, and pays a tribute to its adventures and ever-expanding horizons. The model is distinguished by its soft-cornered square steel case and a unique dial made of German silver.

The indications appearing on the neat, streamlined dial are powered by the new Calibre 37-02, which combines a special set of features: central stop seconds hand, 30 minute and 12 hour counters with flyback mechanism; small seconds counter with power reserve indicator (70 hours), and the Panorama Date display. The new automatic 4 Hz column wheel Calibre 37-02 has been miniaturized, as much as it is possible, to fit in the 40 x 40 mm stainless steel case, without compromising on its stability and reliability. The chronograph start and stop functions are triggered by the pusher at the upper right side of the case, while a single-spring barrel manages the 70-hour power reserve. Pressing the flyback pusher pauses the on-going chronographic measurement, which will be resumed as soon as the pusher is released.

The small seconds dial with dual-tone power reserve indicator appears at 9 o’clock, the 30 minute counter is positioned at 3 o’clock, while an elongated window below 12 o’clock exemplifies the Manufacture’s signature Panorama Date display. The indexes are rendered in white gold, same as the hour and minute hands, which are in addition, coated with Super-LumiNova. A sapphire crystal protects the dial side, while another crystal reveals the automatic movement through the case-back the rotor and chronograph bridges, Glashütte stripe finish on the automatic bridge, blued screws, and the central skeletonized 21-karat gold rotor with the double-G logo.

A black rubber strap and the sporty stainless steel bracelet are available for all three versions. The Glashutte Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date will retails for €12.200 on leather/rubber strap and €13.400 on stainless steel bracelet.
