Special 15 Pieces from the Aero Bang All White Special Edition to commemorate 150 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan.
A couple of days ago, at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, Hublot hosted a special gala event to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Japan. For this special occasion, Hublot unveiled a 15-piece limited series Hublot Aero Bang All White Special Edition, which features an exclusively painted case-back, adorned with the image of the “miracle lone pine tree.” The illustration of the miracle lone pine tree, and an inscription created by the famous calligrapher Shishu, and it represents the pine tree that survived the historical tsunami disaster that hit Japan back in 2011. After the devastating March 11 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, on the two kilometer-long shoreline of Takata-matsubara, home to 70,000 pine trees, just one lone tree, 27 meters high and 200 years old, remained standing. This miracle lone pine tree soon became a symbol of hope and courage, and the new Hublot timepiece pays it a deserved tribute.
As mentioned, only 15 pieces of Hublot Aero Bang All White Special Edition for Japan are available worldwide, and each of them is graced with a unique illustration on the case back. The reverse side of the watch shows each piece’s individual number, while the sapphire glass partially reveals the automatic chronograph movement, and a special inscription written by Shishu. The watch is crafted from stainless steel, with sides made out of composite resin. The watch is mounted on a whiter rubber strap lined with calfskin leather and accentuated with red double-stitching, evoking the national colors of Japan.
The first piece from the series was auctioned off at the gala dinner, along with a work by Shishu. The profit from the auction and a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the 14 remaining watches will be donated to the “Kamiosabe no Sato” who maintains the temporary grounds at Kesen Elementary School in Kesen-machi Kamiosabe in the city of Rikuzentakata.
