Hublot has partnered with the famous Chinese concert pianist, Lang Lang, to create two limited edition models. The Chinese virtuoso has conceived, designed, and developed new Hublot watches inspired by The Art of Fusion, a concept so dear to the Swiss watchmaking brand.
Blending different styles and techniques, the latest collaboration of Hublot and Lang Lang brings the original new CLASSIC FUSION TOURBILLON CATHEDRAL MINUTE REPEATER CARBON LANG LANG and CLASSIC FUSION 45 mm Ceramic Ultra-Thin LANG LANG.
The Classic Fusion Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater Carbon Lang Lang sounds the hours and minutes with the tone of a cathedral double gong. This exquisite new creation is inspired by the Classic Fusion Tourbillon Cathedral Minute Repeater that won the prestigious Grand Prix de Genève in the "striking watch" category in 2014. The complicated mechanism of this timelessly elegant timepiece incorporates two tiny hammers that ring its double gong, each engraved with the pianist’s name. The minute repeater – including its racks, snails, cams and wheels – can be admired through the sapphire dial, and the see-through case back.
The watch is crafted from low density carbon, which turns the case into an optimal sound chamber, strengthening the power, and boosting clarity of the chimes. The musical inspiration is visible even in the slightest details, such as indexes on the dial, at 3, 9 and 12 o'clock. The classic numerals have been replaced by a bass clef—the pianist's left hand—a treble clef—their right hand and—and a stylized sixteenth note that recalls Lang Lang's initials.
This exclusive musical watch, combining the striking mechanism with the tourbillon is produced in a limited series of eight exemplars. Its extraordinary, complicated movement caliber Hublot MHUB8001, is assembled from 319 components and 30 jewels. The manually-wound caliber beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and it features 85 hours of power reserve. The watch, reference number 504.QX.0180.VR.LAL16, is mounted on black rubber and black calf straps with black stitching stamped of a musical stave. Water resistant to 30 meters.
The Classis Fusion 45mm Ceramic Ultra-Thin Lang Lang is available in a more accessible series of 88 individual pieces, evoking the number of keys on a piano! The watch is presented in a black ceramic case that measures 45 mm in diameter and mere 8.15 mm in thickness. Its sleek black dial features the artist's signature appearing in gold, at 3 o'clock position. A small seconds hand is located at 7 o'clock, while a stylized semiquaver that recalls Lang Lang's initials appears at 12 o'clock. The indexes, hands, H-screws, and a crown are made from pure gold, symbolizing the stellar career of the famous pianist. The sapphire black cover features a design that shows Lang Lang playing his piano with panache and his name written in Chinese characters. It also reveals a manual winding movement, decorated with musical notes.
The exquisite ultra-thin model is powered by the manual-winding skeleton movement Caliber Hublot HUB1302. The mechanism is assembled of 123 individual components and 21 jewels, it beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and provides around 90 hours of power reserve. The Classis Fusion 45mm Ceramic Ultra-Thin Lang Lang, reference 515.CS.1280.VR.LAL16, is mounted on black rubber and black shiny calf straps with black stitching. Water resistant to 50 meters.
