The art of tattooing reinterpreted on the iconic Big Bang.
The house of Hublot has partnered with the Sang Bleu tattoo shop from London, England, to create a special new version of its iconic Big Bang model. This time, in collaboration of Maxime Büchi, founder of the Sang Bleu Tattoo studio, Hublot reinterprets the Big Bang in a new, playful version, with a construction that evokes the symbolism in geometric shapes, so dear to Sang Bleu.
Playing with polygons, harmonies and proportions, the new design evokes the golden ratio, also known as the Divine proportion, derived from Leonard de Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. Forms that typify Maxime Büchi’s tattoo designs are evocative of the quest for perfection, revealing the secret science of harmonic forms through highly symbolic shapes and patterns.
The new Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu timepiece takes the form of a glass and metal sculpture. A unique motif evokes the quadrature of the circle, and tells the time in a daring new manner. The famous Big Bang has been totally redesigned so its round bezel now reveals a hexagonal face. The matte black dial features a wide black satin-finish circular flange, stamped with the hours. The bold, graphic numerals are designed by Maxime's typeface-design agency SwissTypefaces SARL.
Another interesting element is the seconds counter, which here appears discretely on the metal sculpture. There are no hands whatsoever, and the time is displayed through three superimposed rhodium-plated octagonal-shaped discs. The largest disc indicates the hours, while the small one marks the minutes. To make this unusual display more user-friendly, the tips of the hours and minutes octagons are coated in white Superluminova. The seconds disk is located at the very center of the display, and stamped with the H of Hublot, and the stylized hourglass of Sang Bleu.
Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu is made of satin-finish and polished titanium, with engraved geometric Maxime Büchi design. The watch measures 45mm in diameter, and it utilizes UNICO HUB1213 mechanical movement with automatic winding. The movement is based on 225 components, including 28 rubies, and it provides 72 hours of power reserve. A special geometric design by Maxime Büchi, the triangular codes of the Sang Bleu logo, extends to the oscillating weight, which is revealed through the case-back.
The Big Bang Sang Bleu is held on a black calfskin strap sewn onto rubber, and it is water resistant to 100 meters. Hublot Big Bang Sang Bleu, reference number 415.NX.1112.VR.MXM16, is available in a special limited edition of 200 pieces. The watches are delivered in a special presentation box with the Maxime Büchi’s geometric motif engraved on the wooden cover.
